Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you define sleep training?

Sleep training, to me, as a term is a real injustice to what I help families do. My definition, however, is that sleep training supporting your child while changing habits around sleep.

Sleep training is NOT leaving your child alone to cry themselves to sleep.

Many things go into the overall process of sleep training. These include
-understanding your individual child’s temperament and personality characteristics
-creating an environment that is conducive to the physiology of sleep
    -optimizing your child’s schedule
-lovingly shifting habits around sleep initiation, and supporting your child through change

  • Is sleep training safe?

Yes! Not only are there numerous ways you can “sleep train” your child, but there are many peer-reviewed studies showing that your child’s connection and secure-attachment to you is not damaged through this process.

  • What is your sleep training philosophy?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to shifting sleep habits, because every child is a unique, individual person!

I also believe that change is hard, and discomfort around change is human and normal, even for the littlest humans. If we can tune in and be compassionate, together we can find a method to support your child during this change that works best for your individual family’s needs and comfort levels.

  • Is my child going to cry?

No one wants to hear their child cry, and I am no exception. My goal is to help you learn how to support your individual child through the discomfort of changing a habit, even if that sometimes involves protest.

Keep in mind that children cry when protesting most things before they develop advanced communication skills. We would never avoid changing a dirty diaper because a child was protesting, or taking a dangerous object from them for their own safety. Sleep is vital to their health and wellbeing, as well as your own.

The amount of crying you can expect is dependent on the method you find most appropriate for your child’s individual personality and temperament. I’m here to help you find the best approach for you, your child, and your family.

  • When can I expect my sleep plan once I order?

After you order your sleep plan, you’ll be sent an intake form. Once I receive your completed intake form, you can expect your plan within 5 business days OR the day before your review call, if you’re doing 1:1 support.

  • Are you available 24/7 when my support begins?

I am available between the hours of 7am and 8pm CST via the Rested app during your support period for 1:1, and otherwise I answer emails between normal business hours Monday through Saturday.
